Fireworks - July 4th, 2017
There are lots of fireworks displays throughout San Diego county on July 4th. The largest consists of four that are shot off from barges in San Diego Bay. For my first time, I decided to give the Bay display a try, and to bring my camera (and tripod!)
Having heard of the crowds the Bay display attracts, I wondered if I really would be able to find parking and a good spot for viewing. Turns out I came across a very close and convenient parking space. From there, I walked less than half mile to a spot right on the Bay close to one of the barges. Turned out to be a great spot from which I could see the fireworks shot from the barge immediately in front of me as well as the fireworks shot from two of the other barges.
Additionally, in the distance, there were several additional fireworks displays that could be seen.
Fortunately, I had researched tips for photographing fireworks as I wouldn't have had a clue how to do it properly. After reviewing these shots, there are some tweaks that I would make in the future, but pretty pleased how these turned out for my first attempt.
The only downside of this viewing was the HORRIBLE traffic afterwards. In addition to the aftermath of the Bay display, there was the added traffic impact from the many other displays. What should have taken me about 30-45 minutes to get home, it ended up taking nearly 2 1/2 hours!
